The fall season is upon us. If you have young children and are looking for an easy seasonal activity for them to do- then look no further. For today on my blog, my children and I will be sharing one of our fun fall activities with you all. This project is so simple that you will want to make it too!
Our fall pasta craft for kids is inexpensive and easy to make. With only a few simple supplies- you can create a fun craft that the whole family can enjoy doing together.
So, pour yourself a cup of coffee with pumpkin cream- and meet us at the dining table- where much of our life and learning takes place. Let the festive fall crafting begin!
Fall Pasta Craft for Kids: Necessary Supplies
As a mom and a homeschool educator, I love when projects are simple to create… and when they do not require many supplies. This is one of those projects.
For this festive fall craft, you will need the following items:
- Popsicle sticks
- Gold paint
- Gold flake paper (optional)
- Gold glitter (also optional)
- Fall inspired dried pasta (I purchased my package of dried pasta from Aldi. My particular package contained an assortment of dried pasta shapes in the form of colorful leaves and plump pumpkins).
- Acorns or tiny pinecones (Basically, any natural item that you find outside during the fall season will work.)
- Scraps of fall themed fabric. You will only need a small square piece per project (approximately 4inches by 4 inches).
- Thin twine, yarn, or ribbon
- Hot glue and a hot glue gun
What Seasonal Crafts for Kids Can Be Made with Dried Pasta?
Naturally, there are many crafts that can be created with dried pasta. Simple ideas include (#1) using thin twine to make a dried pasta necklace, (#2) using the dried pasta to create a piece of textural artwork that celebrates colors and patterns (see photo below), or (#3) making a fall inspired picture frame or piece of hanging art- to name but a few.
*Do be mindful, if working with young children, that the dried pasta can pose a choking risk- so adult supervision may be necessary.
Dried Pasta Hanging Art Project:
Right, let me first begin by showing you how my family made an adorable fall hanging art piece- using only simple supplies and materials.
Initially, the idea was to create an autumn themed picture frame, but seeing as I had some scrap fall fabric (that was left over from a seasonal bunting flag banner), we decided to incorporate the scrap fabric into our design as well (also see photos below).
How to Make a Piece of Fall Art with Dried Pasta (Step-by-Step Instructions):
Perhaps, I should first give credit where credit is due. My oldest daughter actually came up with the idea to create this fun fall craft together. These are the steps we followed.
- Step One: We painted four popscicle sticks gold. (You could choose any fall color you like). While the paint was slightly damp, we also added bit of gold flake paper. You could also add gold glitter here as well.
- Step Two: We used hot glue to glue each corner of the painted popsicle sticks together. (Thus, creating a square frame).
- Step Three: Once dry, we glued one acorn to each corner of our popsicle stick frame. (You will note our acorns are spray painted with golden glitter paint for a glamourous touch. If you would like to see how we did this for another project, you can see that post here.)
- Step Four: We used the hot glue gun to secure our fall dried pasta to our frame. Note: If you would like to use this as a fall inspired picture frame then you can finish you project here by adding a sweet photo -or a fall scene from nature.
- Step Five: We cut out a square of scrap fall fabric (approximately 4 inches x 4inches) to fit our frame. We then carefully hot glued the fabric to the back of the popsicle sticks.
- Step Six: We glued some thin twine to the back of our frame (for hanging purposes). Another idea would be to add a small magnet to the back of the popsicle sticks if you wanted to use it as a photo frame to display on the family refrigerator.
The Finished Fall Pasta Craft for Kids (in Photos):
Ta-da! A simple fall craft that anyone can create. By using basic supplies (some new, some old scraps, and some items found in nature), we were able to produce a fun piece of hanging art that the children were proud of.
No matter how simple the project may seem- exercising our creativity while enjoying family time together is always a good goal to reach for.
My Happy Hawks Homeschool crew found great joy in creating their very own hanging art pieces. Now, they can use these pieces to decorate their dresser drawers or place their art on their bedroom door’s doorknob. I’ll let them decide.

This project is simple enough for children to do mostly on their own (aside from needing a bit of help with the hot glue gun and monitoring the dried pasta usage). Allowing children to express their own creativity- by using simple materials is a win-win in my book.
The craft is cute yes, but perhaps the best part is that we were able to make these sweet fall projects together. For, I am convinced- that memory making and learning often come from time spent with one another.
